Give the workday an ending
Before leaving your workspace, write down unfinished tasks and the next time you will review them. This is a planning practice, not a promise that every concern will disappear.
Choose what arriving means
Decide on one visible action: put away your phone for an agreed interval, ask your partner about their day, share a meal, or take a walk. Choose something that fits your household rather than an idealized evening.
Discuss expectations together
Ask what meaningful time together looks like to the other person. Explain when work may interrupt and how you will communicate it. An arrangement works better when everyone understands it.
Keep a smaller version
When the evening changes, preserve a smaller action if possible. Ten attentive minutes and a plan to reconnect may be more workable than abandoning the intention entirely. Review what fits rather than treating one difficult evening as a verdict.
A question to carry into your week
What is one choice you could make differently, and what would help you follow through?
